Come with us now to the heady days of yesteryear, a time when there used to be something known as Saturday morning Cartoons.  It was a time that many enjoyed some of the most magical times of their childhood growing up in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

In the time before cable reached domination right before the domination of streaming, kids used to get up on the first day of the weekend.  They’d run to the tv with all the enthusiasm of a Christmas morning; hoping to catch as many of the cartoons as possible before they went off the air to be replaced by adult programing.

Here in the US, this was the time of superhero shows that dated all the way back to the Superfriends:

All the way to a Japanese import known as the Power Rangers:

There was a magic time in people’s lives where the littlest child could watch a tale about heroes and feel taller than a skyscraper.   It doesn’t matter that these same shows might feel silly to us now, there was a time when these shows were magic to us.

Shows such as these still exist, it is just that they are no longer the universal experience they were in the days when there was far less to watch and far less time to watch it in.   Individuals will nostalgically get swept away by certain things, but it is no longer something that vast amounts of entire generations will remember together.

That said, whatever makes childhood magical is something precious.   The anime, "Love After World Domination" is a love letter too that.

Like a Bugs Bunny cartoon of old, such as a Rabbit In King Arthur’s Court having a character Sir Osis of Liver, this one is peppered with jokes for adults. 

The anime lovingly makes fun of the superhero troupes.  It makes fun of our own experiences at that age.  It even pulls the rug out from under our expectations, even down to a very different take on Romeo and Juliet.

This is all done from a place of love.  Due to this, you are in for one heck of a ride, through a great Romantic Comedy.

The superhero team: Freezing Sentai Gelato 5 is there to provide the heroes of this show.  They are five youths chosen to play the part of a satire on the Power Ranger craze.

Each character is a more adult version.  They are also far more well rounded than most shows for children would ever allow a character to be.

Against this heroic group is the evil organization Gekko.  This group of bad guys is everything you could hope in a group designed to go up against the heroes weekly, without winning and thus ending the show.

Again, as with the heroes, these characters are far more developed than they would be for a children’s show.  As such, it is one of the few times you’ll see a deep dive into such a group’s organization and teamwork.

This is one of the great charms of the show.  It isn’t just that it is a great romantic comedy.   It is great world building.

The title villainess and love interest has a great relationship with her coworkers.  She has a scene stealing dad that shows up as she is the second generation in the evil organization.

I think I enjoyed this more than most as a long term red side PVP player.   If you played Imperial in a Star Wars game, or a Villian in COX or DCUO, there isn’t always the same level of complex storytelling for red side as blue.

This story gives you that.   It also gives situational comedy based on the misunderstandings of both sides.

For a more general audience, what the Austin Powers movies were to the spy movies genre, this show is to the Saturday morning hero cartoon genre.  It even does so with far more worldbuilding, time, romance, comedy, and plot.

If you are willing to scratch your romantic itch, while watching this with childlike wonder, I think this one can end up being one of your favorites.  You can find this in Sub and Dub on Crunchyroll.   The Dub actors did a great job with this one too.
