"Men want a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue. That is what is written in their hearts. That is what little boys play at. That is what men's movies are about. You just see it. It is undeniable." -John Eldredge
“In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else?.” ― Ronald Reagan
Our story begins with a man named Saitama who makes the choice to save a child in trouble. It is a simple act of heroism.
The man moves on and decides to become a full time hero. Looking for the man who saved his son that day, a multimillionaire founds the bureaucratic Hero Association to defend the nation from villain threats and things that are worse.
The world of heroes falls under this system The system itself creates a flawed hero ranking system. The system is vulnerable due to being run by incompetent experts. These bureaucrats have no idea what they are doing or how to actually gauge the very individuals that the system is supposed to identify and classify.
In this time, Saitama has become a hero without peer. He has literally become a character so powerful that he destroys all of his opponents with one punch.
The Hero Association has been allowing other heroes to take credit for Saitama's work. They don't even know who Saitama is.
Further, when Saitama actually bothers to register years later, the bureaucratic test identifies him as a below average hero that needs to do low level work. After all, 50% of the test is a written portion that Saitama didn't do well on.
In effect, someone like Superman isn't Superman, because of something like a poorly constructed written driving test. Instead, Superman needs to do low level grunt work, like be Robin for Batman.
This is a story that does something that people thought was impossible. Invincible characters are supposed to not work in stories. However, One Punch Man takes a premise that English professors have said is unworkable for more than a century and turned it into a smash international hit.
It's a reminder of the saying, "Those who can do and those who cannot teach." The Comedy Action masterpiece that is season one isn't just good, it is something you can watch multiple times without it ever getting boring.
It's among the studio Madhouses finest work. If you haven't see it you should. You can find this on Netflix and buy it on Amazon.

To quote wiki,
"On a supercontinent version of Earth that has four Moons, powerful monsters and supervillains wreak havoc. The millionaire Agoni creates the Hero Association, which employs superheroes to fight evil. Saitama, an unassociated hero, hails from City Z and performs heroic deeds as a hobby. For three years, he has trained enough to defeat any enemy with a single punch, his unmatched strength leaving him bored. He becomes a reluctant mentor to Genos, a cyborg seeking revenge against another cyborg who killed his family and destroyed his hometown, after Saitama defeats a monster that defeated Genos."
