Imagine if Rod Serling, of the original Twilight Zone, wrote an Anime Romance story that was also a Science Fiction. Serling, using his noted ability to twist everything you think you know and guess, into something you never expected.
A famous person named Mai Sakurajima finds herself utterly ignored by the public. She reaches a point where she can't buy food or interact with people at all in a certain area. It seems like she is being utterly shunned.
On a lark, she decides to act as outrageously as possible in the middle of conservative Japan. This will force people to acknowledge her.
In what is turning out to be the short road to her own darkest hour, someone notices her. His name is Sakuta Azusagawa.
They begin to explore and explain a series of supernatural events that are either very rare, or are somehow forgotten about by most of the population.
Reality literally warps from these events. It is like the Wish mechanics of DND, or the reality bending of Mage the Ascension.
With each problem solved, the next appears. In time, it seems the Sakuta is somehow the central magnet for this.
Some might call these events supernatural. Others might take it with the quantum physics the anime itself offers as an explanation.
Against the odds, within this ever messed with dynamic, a romance is either about to develop or fail. It's one where the world itself seems to do everything it can to stop it.
