"Absolute power corrupts absolutely" -Lord Acton
Would the world really be kinder if it were run by women? Is the darkness of a human heart something that belongs to only one gender?
As much as Western leftist activists tend to scream about Patriarchy, people rarely actually look at its opposite Matriarchy. This is something that has real world examples.
Let's look first at the British Monarchy. As with the rise of King Charles, Patriarchy is suddenly a word hot in the British Public again. Let's take a look at how often women have ruled recently starting with Queen Victoria.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Victoria
wiki quote, Victoria (Alexandrina Victoria; 24 May 1819 – 22 January 1901) was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 20 June 1837 until her death in 1901. Her reign of 63 years and 216 days is known as the Victorian era and was longer than any of her predecessors. It was a period of industrial, political, scientific, and military change within the United Kingdom, and was marked by a great expansion of the British Empire. In 1876, the British Parliament voted to grant her the additional title of Empress of India.
and Queen Elizabeth II
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_II
wiki quote, Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime and remained the monarch of 15 realms by the time of her death. Her reign of over 70 years is the longest of any British monarch and the longest verified reign of any female head of state in history.
It's 2023, as of this writing. As a matter of math, from 1837 to 2023, women ruled 133 years of the past 186 years or 71.5% of that time.
In a tweet, on February 28, 2017, the British Journalist Piers Morgan brought up the fact that the five most powerful people in the United Kingdom were all women:
https://twitter.com/piersmorgan/status/836553270403477508?lang=en
Not picking a fight, but just bringing up the fact that neither in the last decade, nor the last two centuries, has the life of the citizens of that kingdom been all sunshine and rainbows. Mixing the gender of those in ultimate authority doesn't appear to change the fate of those without real power, compared to those that have it.
In another example, from our own Western history, it is worth noting that women have exercised power in large groups, in ways that modern thinking and culture do not admit. So, let's look at an example where women of high social standing had the power of life and death over those of lower social standing.
Let's take a quick deep dive on what wealthy and high status Imperial women in Rome did with Roman Gladiators. This is literally an example of what the women of privilege did with desirable men who were literally no more than slaves.
As you can see in the video below, they did so even with Imperial Roman men of their status trying to discourage them from doing so. It was completely without success.
Thus, there is actually historical research that basically states in a world where women hold absolute power over men, a man's best chance to be held as desirable is to do so by putting their life at risk. You have to stand so far above other men that women find themselves wanting you, regardless of a potential social stigma.
The cost of doing so, of course, is your life is forfeit as soon as you lose. There is no change in the social standing. You are simply an object of desire, until you go to the grave for failure.
The anime, "Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games Is Tough for Mobs" takes a deep dive into such a world. This world was literally created to be a romance and power fantasy for female customers, by a video game company. The story itself is told from the eyes of a man who becomes this world's prisoner.
I'd like to recommend this one. It's a comedy that has a really interesting take on the anime Isekai subtype and has a lot of gamer culture baked in.
A man ends up in a personal hell, after being blackmailed by his sister into completed a dating sim game for her. A game that must have been a Korean Grinder.
The guy even takes out the credit card to pay to win. It still takes him about three days of non stop play to finish it. A feat that costs him his life, just like many real world examples.
It's currently on Crunchyroll. You can view it with dub or sub.
If you are a DND player, welcome to a Matriarchy world that is almost up to Drow Standards. It's not completely, as Drow females devoted to Lolth, demon queen of spiders, would never let a male own land or marry them.
Men are just consorts in that society. It's not just a matter of status, it's that their children are their property alone as well...

To quote wiki,
"An office worker dies and finds himself reincarnated as Leon Fou Bartfort in the Holfort Kingdom of the otome game that he was forced to complete by his sister. In this world, women reign supreme, and survival is particularly tough for 'mobs', background characters like him. Using his encyclopedic knowledge of the game from his past life, Leon sets on disrupting this world and its social hierarchy by finding the cheat item Luxion and enrolling in the Holtfort Academy. He attempts to live a normal life and find a wife, but through his actions he gets embroiled in all kinds of schemes, all while mingling with the nobility and other characters of the otome game."

Silver Storm's English cover
Translated Lyrics
Every body is your enemy
Say that they are who they wish they could be
Tell me pretty lies so you can get all that you want from me
If I'm wrong, I don't want to be right
My future's not for you to decide
I ain't gonna let you tell me how I ought to live my lifeHidden behind a false facade
Everyone's the reaper
You'll never break my poker face
Now or neverI'm the one
I'll stand against the tyranny we face
Ignite a spark of revolution now
And I don't care if there's no reason why
If it's what you believe, that's all you need
So ride the high, I'll speak my mind
When no one else would take a chance
I say it's time to make a change
Don't look away
I'm rebuilding everything right here todayNoisy people living noisy lives
Silent people telling more easy lies
Everyone around you always thinking that they've gotta be right
No one listens to the voice of the few
No one ever wants to learn something new
Done with all the bullshit and pretending that I care
'Cause I could try again, but you would not listen to me, would you?Don't wait or we'll leave you behind
No one else is gonna fight for you
And if nobody hears what you say
Don't think twice, there must be something you can doI am here for everyone who always fell in line
I say that you are free to live your life
And don't let others tell you who to be
If it's what you believe, that's all you need
So ride the high, I'll speak my mind
When no one else would take a chance
I say it's time to make a change
Don't look away
I'm rebuilding everything right here todayI'm rising up, even if no one remembers my name
Don't look away
I'm rebuilding everything right here today.

Anime «Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs» ending theme
In this worst world I’ve found
One single password, now it’s my secret.
Even this unfortunate fate was given to me by someone.
So why not keep moving forward, believing in your path? That guy, who thinks he’s the center of attention all day long, is also just pretending.
He’s just an eloquent, puny, narcissistic narcissist.
Why, why does everyone look for mistakes only on the losers?
Although we all try our best.Being selfish is the best! Taking losses is okay.
There is nothing to be done about the fact, which we’re in conflict, I know this.
I want to run on the byroad all the time.
Whether it’s the main character or the prince,
Their cold eyes are slightly trembling.
Though all wishes may not come true,
Let’s start this little magic story!Where is the reluctance to give up?
Involuntarily becoming the center of attention is just a screen, there is nothing in it.
If I break here, I’ll change again.
I’ll turn into someone else, and it will be painful!«Let me go» — cause I hear these words…
Let’s do our best! Be selfish, yeah,
Here is my little wish.
I want to be the way I like.
Even if I don’t succeed, I’ll just try one more.Being selfish is the best! Taking losses is okay.
Nothing can be done about the fact, which we’re in conflict, so ride on.
I want to run on the byroad all the time.
Whether it’s the main character or the prince,
Their broken hearts are bound by pretending to be strong.
‘Cause my hated self will be destroyed,
This little magical story will continue!
From this point forward, I'll start a deep dive. I will make sure that anything that would be a spoiler beyond episode 1 is on the pages to follow. Page 1 is spoiler free for Episode 2 and beyond.
We will have to evoke the FAIR USE Act. This will be an educational work to help you appreciate just how much work the author, Yomu Mishima, put into this work.
I will actually recommend that people get the manga and the light novels. I'll even show you why they are well worth the expense and your time. We will get into why...

For those wondering what Leon's Japanese sister had blackmailed him about, I have the answer.
From the novel, Chapter 0 - prologue,
"Huh? Is it alright for you to say that? I won’t resolve the misunderstand with mom and the others that way. I’ll buy you a souvenir, so please complete it~. *If you don’t complete when I get back, I’ll do more cruel things that will keep you stuck in that apartment. From, your cute sister.’
As I read the message, I yelled while fighting the urge to slam my phone onto the floor.
“Damn iiiiit!!”
I wanted to refuse doing this.
However, my sister who lives at home──hid a large amount of her personal books in my room. They were books she liked and were for fujoshis. My mother happened to find them when she was cleaning, and now it’s caused a misunderstand about me supposedly having that kind of preference. (TLN: Fujoshis are girls that have a very strong passion for yaoi/homosexual relationships between men in manga/anime/novels)
I tried to resolve the misunderstanding, but the more I tried to explain──the more she thought I was trying to deceive her.
...It’s a nightmare."
As Leon's mother was extremely important to him, he didn't want her to believe something false about him. This was the leverage that led to his death, his sister was supposed to clear up this misunderstanding that she herself had caused.
Leon joins a new family in reincarnation. This household is technically a Barony.
His actual mother is a lower knight status, so she is only able to be by Barcus's side by being his mistress. It is a huge deal to Leon that his mother is the only person who ever told him that she loved him in this world. This is true even by the end of Episode 10.
Their family is a Barony due to expansion of their property that lead to them being classified as a higher Rank and thus tax bracket that leaves the family poor. I'll get into said system on the next page. As a clan of farmers, their fortunes were tied to fickle harvests, but the tax amounts did not change during droughts and hard times.
Back to the family proper, Leon and his brother sleep in the farming storehouse, instead of the residence due to their family situation. Zora is his father's wife, but only shows up for money and to give commands. She spends the overwhelming majority of her time in the Capital, where she has her own house and slaves. Her husband is her bank and field hand, Barcus is nothing else to Zora, nor has he been for more than a decade. The story will get into the fact later that Barcus has severe doubts that his legitimate Blonde children are even his.
The promotion if Barcus's father is what forced Barcus to marry Zora. As a higher ranking noble, he never had an option to actually marry the lower knight ranked Luce, who he loved and who loved him in return. Why this wasn't something Barcus could get around is gone into with more depth on the next page.
It should be noted that men have a very real time limit to be married that women enforce. It is some of the most powerful leverage women have over men.
Failure to marry can end family lines. Men are desperate not to fall into this trap.
Leon has his life endangered as a part of a fixed marriage scam by the lower nobility. The head of the household, his Father's wife Zora, lets him know she's arranged a marriage:
The purpose is the yearly income meant to compensate the mother of the lost soldier (Zora as the highest ranking spouse) and the soldier's wife. Both will get a yearly income for life.
For the wife, this has no limitation. It isn't like child support that ends when a child reaches a certain age. It isn't like alimony which ends with the next marriage. This is a lifelong pension for both. Both ladies belong to a secret society of noblewomen that take part in this, "the Forest of the Ladies".
Zora's friend is collecting for 7 dead men. She aims to be paid for 8.
In chapter 1 volume 1, it states,"
That’s when I noticed it.
...This person is planning to have me die in a battle.
Nobles. This is the same for soldiers, but when they die in a fight for the sake of the country, their family will be paid compensation.
For soldiers, payments happen en masse, but the case is a little different for nobles.
They will be given an honor for fighting on behalf of the country, and to make matters worse, their compensation is given annually.
The only thing I can hear from Zola’s marriage talk is the money she wants from my death and her subsequent honor from it. All the husbands of this partner so far have been written down on this background document as “honored by death in battle.”
It should be noted when Zora brings up the fact that Leon must marry by age 20, that is not a joke. He's damaged goods at that point.
His only options would be to marry a lady like the woman that Zora just tried to rope him into, this is most often as a woman's second husband (Polyandry) that noble ladies like to traditionally have by age 50, as a reward for themselves. Women of course are not limited to just two husbands at one time.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyandry
It would typically be that or Leon will be some lady's side lover. He will never know his own children. His family line will end. Most likely he will be drafted into a combat zone, as an unmarried recruit.
There is no such bar for women. For Leon, no matter his achievements, the clock is ticking...
