"This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man." -Polonius, William Shakespeare's Hamlet
“No matter where you go, there you are.” - Gordon Furbish, United States Air Force
What would you really be if you found yourself in another world? Would that completely change you, as so many stories will imply, or would you persist as your actual personality?
Would being an overpowered presence change you being awkward? Would it take away your previous perceptions or hobbies?
Would it take away your social anxiety if you had it? Would you read every situation correctly, with some sudden clarity you never had before?
It's worth asking, as Japanese nerd culture now has a bulk of anime that pretends upon going to another world, you would suddenly be more confident, aware and infallible than you already were in your previous life. Many of these leave the character with the same mind and appearance.
Seriously, it's not like the Japanese nerd culture is that different from Western nerd culture. So, let me ask you something after you see this gif below.
Do you think this guy is suddenly going to get a Harem in another world because of his new overpowered cheat fighting moves? In your imagination, looking at that gif, do you think women are just lining up to suddenly be his side hustle?
It's so common in these stories that it is the troupe. It is worth asking.
Uncle from Another World is a first rate comedy that flips the troupes of bad Isekai on its head. It does so with pure comedy and a healthy dose of old gamer culture.
I won't go into spoilers, but I think this is really worth your time. There is even the unexpected realization, that like a Youtube "Let's Play" video, you are enjoying watching a screen about somebody watching a screen. Seriously, that's the power of good storytelling.
That is pure meta. You can find this gem on Netflix.

wiki quote,
In modern-day Japan, Takafumi Takaoka picks up his uncle who recently awakened from a 17-year coma after being hit by a truck. Uncle shows the ability to use magic spells, and explains that he was actually sent to another world. Takafumi lets his uncle move in with him, and he, joined by Takafumi's childhood friend Sumika Fujimiya, spends his days helping Uncle adjust to modern society while also watching his memories of the other world.

Lyrics:
Refrain from those erased memories
Rewrite the words that the usual story shows now
Don’t end this, won’t change it
No matter what you do, it can’t be different
Don’t forget your goal 『Who decided it?』
『That way of living is not like you』
The strength to do what you want to do
That’s what really makes you strong
I know it so
I believe in what I’ve done
No reason to go back again
Those days I’ve walked
And the reason to be nostalgic of
Easy losing memories
I’m struggling now to overcome
I will never give up
Until the end
Get down, let’s get down
While I still remember the light in my heart Regret
Don’t let me feel it
Reboot
Dialogue that never gives up
Call that name into the void
Just move on
Then we’ll talk
It’s an important exchange
I listened to voices that understood me
『Continue to challenge』
『And create a move to go back』
Set me free to end this game
Or I’m done before the time is up
If you decide it’s a disadvantage, you’ll lose from the beginning
Let me tell you one last word
Don’t give up on you till the end
Believe in that power
Without ever doubting it
Talk to your spirit
Don’t erase your memories and trust yourself your life
New game has begun Who decided it?
That way of living is not like you
The strength to do what you want to do
That’s what really makes you strong
I know it so
I believe in what I’ve done
No reason to go back again
Those days I’ve walked
And the reason to be nostalgic of
Easy losing memories
I’m struggling now to overcome
I will never give up
Until the end
Get down, let’s get down
While I still remember the light in my heart 『Trust yourself』
『Don’t deny』
『Save yourself』
『Don’t Forget』

Song title: The sonority of the first star
Anime «Uncle from Another World» ending themeYour far stretched shadow,
Saying: «See you later,» I followed it gaze.
Why don’t you notice it,
Even though I look at you like this?Feelings, which I can’t voice,
Looking for a place to get out,
Quietly climbed up
On the orange color blurred on the sky.I’ll continue to play
My little, little prayers to this star.
I wish someday they will illuminate
This still distant sky.I want to convey to you, but I can’t,
At least a piece of my love.
I’ll wink non-stop
You, the one and only for me.When only my shadow remained,
I sighed furtively.
Somehow it doesn’t feel like me,
This sentiment, which comes and goes.A myriad of lights,
As if to look after us,
Illuminated the night,
Forming constellations.Even if suddenly
You get lost
Behind the distant, distant darkness,
I want them to always illuminate your path.‘Cause I ran into these feelings,
Which don’t change, which stay the same,
I have a premonition,
That I won’t be the same anymore. You, I’ll show you,
How I’ll shine even brighter.I’ll continue to play
My little, little prayers to this star.
I wish someday they will illuminate
This still distant sky.I want to convey to you, but I can’t,
At least a piece of my love.
I’ll wink non-stop you.
I beg you, please, find me certainly.
