Okay, but I also have a balloon phobia. It's called globophobia (don't ask me why it's called that) but it's legitimately a very uncomfortable phobia because balloons are everywhere and it's a little embarrassing to explain why you don't like balloons since they're symbolically pretty happy objects.
Needless to say, I relate to Mumei.
(Also, I think it usually only applies to rubber balloons, not mylar)

Its been a month already... I came back here to finally put my feelings to paper so to speak; I always gravitated towards the MYTH girls more than council/promise, but i always had a soft spot for this song; the way it sounds nostalgic and even slightly sad despite the high pitch sections always felt unique and interesting, but now that i sit down and analyze the lyrics and even read some of the comments diving into the lyrics, animation, and even the instrumental i have come to realize... i didn't appreciate this gen as i should have, Astrogirl has the same experience or feel as this song, but i think the reason "Mumei" hits harder is because we had more time with Mumei than Sana

Ultimately i regret not being more involved with concil/promise from the get go, though i will say the month after her announcement i tuned into every stream after, and it gives me some solace that i was there when she said goodbye.

This message goes out to Mumei wherever she is, whether she reads it or not, i will carry your memory not as "nameless" but as "Mumei" who's made an impression not just on hololive but on the medium as a whole, wherever you are or wind up doing, i wish you luck and prosperity; for now i will carry this lantern you have given us high and continue not as "nameless" but as "someone" 🤎🤎🤎🤎

After a quick read on what "Mumei" means, and just with reading the lyrics, this song becomes more than just a catchy song, it becomes a song about being "nameless", knowing that you wont be remembered and finally living with that fact but still moving forward.
I love you Mooms, never change and we Hoomans will always be there for you, even when you are "nameless"

I always had a suspicious feeling that the lyrics for mumei were not only about pre-Hololive Mumei, but also an allusion to graduation. Like it was both a thank you to the fans today and a goodbye love letter to fans for tomorrow at the exact same time. If you really think about it, Mumei being surrounded by modern ruins implies that she's in a post-Hololive world and is reconnecting with all the friends and memories she made years into the future. That song always sounded like an overwhelming mix of sadness, loneliness, hope, and melancholic nostalgia to me. When you look it that way, the ending of the music video where Mumei looks at you while waving her lantern to you hits so much harder and way differently now. It's like she's saying to you, "Don't worry. It's ok. I'm still out there. I'm still with you in spirit. You're not alone. So don't forget me. I'll guide you through your grief." I didn't want to verbalize it back then because it would've stirred up a lot of dread and I didn't want to do that, but now that she's actually graduating, I think it's safe to say that mumei in particular is going to the main song that her fans will keep revisiting for years after her graduation.

I so desperately hope that Mumei's time with us and Hololive helps lead her to a happy and fulfilling life. She's so private, so careful, yet so considerate and so thoughtful. Whenever she opens up like this I really do feel like I'm peering into humanity itself. I have no clue what she plans to do after, nor do I have any right to know, but if I can be selfish, I hope she continues to let us peak into that sweet mind of hers through tweets and art. I hope she is able to be selfish when she needs to be, to keep those real social connections she's made, and to get her life on whichever track she wants it to be on.

An orchestral cover of a song that hit me right in the feels.

I've been struggling to finish anything music-wise. I'm not particularly fond of my music and I think it shows in my scarce activity. Nevertheless, I realise I've hit a plateau making music and I haven't really bothered to make anything new.

And then I listened to this song.

Hearing about Mumei's experience with loneliness, I found it highly relatable. I'm a lonely person. Despite having the honour of getting to know wonderful, supportive people, I can't help but feel like an outsider - I've always been like that, I've always thought like that. But the thought is gradually becoming less invasive and I'm starting to appreciate the little things.

I felt an urge to write music after listening. The many layers in the composition, the lyrics and visuals, I felt inspired to write. Thus I started working on this track, with all kinds of struggles in the process.

Both my writing and mixing - it's far from perfect. I'm not particularly well-versed in this style of orchestral music and I'm still catching up and bettering myself on the orchestral front. Even now I feel like this track could have been much better than it currently is, but I will never improve if I cease making music or just keep fussing over all the details.

I feel like the central theme of this song is loneliness, but there's also a sliver of hope. That hope for me is the progress I am making and realising.
I'm feeling grateful to have found a song I can relate to and I hope it has found something to resonate with for you as well. As for this composition, I hope you'll enjoy listening to it!

This version found its way to me and I’m so thankful. This is thus far the best one I’ve heard, because it brings out a different emotion in me. Seeing the performance like this really makes me appreciate the hard work of Holotori. They all are perfectly in sync even when they are not the focus of the "main" camera and seeing it as one continuous shot I get the sense of how much they must've practiced to get this routine down. I love how each member's movements are so strikingly their own, even when performing the exact same movement. Kiara really embodying the classic idol style; Mumei's small, reserved movements; Subaru's big and energetic actions; I've been a fan of Hololive as streamers and comedians for years, and even as individual singers, but this is the performance that really opened my eyes to "Okay, I see why idol culture is so big".
