Billie Holiday - "i´ll be seeing you" (1944)

https://genius.com/Billie-holiday-ill-be-seeing-you-lyrics

[Verse 1]
I'll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces
All day and through
In that small café
The park across the way
The children's carousel
The chestnut trees, the wishing well

[Verse 2]
I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you

[Verse 3]
I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you

Willis Augustus "Ching" Lee Jr. (May 11, 1888 – August 25, 1945) was a vice admiral of the United States Navy during World War II. Lee commanded the American ships during the second night of the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal (November 14–15, 1942) and turned back a Japanese invasion force headed for the island. The victory ended Japanese attempts to reinforce their troops on Guadalcanal, and thus marked a turning point in both the Guadalcanal Campaign and the Pacific War.

Lee was also a skilled sport shooter, and won seven medals in the 1920 Olympics shooting events, including five gold medals, tied with teammate Lloyd Spooner for the most anyone had ever received at a single Olympic Games. Their record stood for 60 years. He was the most successful athlete at the 1920 Olympics.[1]

Bing Crosby And The Andrew Sisters, "Pistol Packin' Mama" (1944)

https://genius.com/Bing-crosby-and-the-andrews-sisters-pistol-packin-mama-lyrics

Lay that pistol down, babe
Lay that pistol down
Pistol packin' mama
Lay that pistol down

Oh, drinking beer in a cabaret
Was I having fun
Until one night she caught me right
Now I'm on the run

Oh, lay that pistol down, babe
Lay that pistol down
Pistol packin' mama
Lay that pistol down

Oh, I'll sing you every night, Bing
And I'll woo you every day
I'll be your regular mama
And I'll put that gun away

Oh, lay that pistol down, babe
Lay that pistol down
Pistol packin' mama
Lay that thing down before it goes off and hurts somebody

Oh, she kicked out my windshield
And she hit me over the head
She cussed and cried and said I lied
And she wished that I was dead

Oh, lay that pistol down, babe
Lay that pistol down
Pistol packin' mama
Lay that pistol down

We're 3 tough gals
From deep down Texas way
We got no pals
They don't like the way we play

We're a rough rootin' tootin' shootin' trio
But you ought to see my sister Cleo
She's a terror make no error
But there ain't no nicer terror
Here's what we tell her

Lay that pistol down, babe
Lay that pistol down
Pistol packin' mama
Lay that pistol down

Pappy made a batch of corn
The revenuers came
The draught was slow, so now they know
You can't do that to Mame
Oh, lay that pistol down, babe
Lay that pistol down
Pistol packin' mama
Lay that pistol down

Oh, singing songs in a cabaret
Was I having fun
Till one night it didn't seem right
Now I'm on the run

Oh, lay that pistol down, babe
Lay that pistol down
Pistol packin' mama
Lay that pistol down

Oh, pistol packin' mama
Lay that pistol down

Chattanooga Choo Choo (A Glenn Miller Swing Celebration) (1941)

https://genius.com/Glenn-miller-and-his-orchestra-chattanooga-choo-choo-lyrics

Pardon me, boy
Is that the Chattanooga choo choo?
Track twenty-nine
Boy, you can gimme a shine
I can afford
To board a Chattanooga choo choo
I've got my fare
And just a trifle to spare

You leave the Pennsylvania Station 'bout a quarter to four
Read a magazine and then you're in Baltimore
Dinner in the diner
Nothing could be finer
Than to have your ham an' eggs in Carolina

When you hear the whistle blowin' eight to the bar
Then you know that Tennessee is not very far
Shovel all the coal in
Gotta keep it rollin'
Woo, woo, Chattanooga there you are

There's gonna be
A certain party at the station
Satin and lace
I used to call "funny face"
She's gonna cry
Until I tell her that I'll never roam
So Chattanooga choo choo
Won't you choo-choo me home?
Chattanooga choo choo
Won't you choo-choo me home?

Also I should add that the artist Glen Miller himself signed up for service.  He was on a plane that disappeared on December 15, 1944.   He was declared dead December 16, 1945.
Hulton Archive/Getty Images

Alton Glen "Glenn" Miller (March 1, 1904;[citation needed] disappeared December 15, 1944; declared dead December 16, 1945) was an American big band conductor, arranger, composer, trombone player, and recording artist before and during World War II, when he was an officer in the US Army Air Forces.[1] His civilian band, Glenn Miller and His Orchestra were one of the most popular and successful bands of the 20th century and the big band era.[2][3][4] His military group, the Major Glenn Miller Army Air Forces Orchestra,[1] was also popular and successful.[1]

Glenn Miller and His Orchestra was the best-selling recording band from 1939 to 1942. Miller's civilian band did not have a string section as his military unit did, but it did have a slap bass in the rhythm section. It was also a touring band that played multiple radio broadcasts nearly every day. Their best-selling records include Miller's theme song – "Moonlight Serenade" – and the first gold record ever made, "Chattanooga Choo Choo". The following tunes are also on that best-seller list: "In the Mood", "Pennsylvania 6-5000" (printed as "Pennsylvania Six-Five Thousand" on record labels), "A String of Pearls", "Moonlight Cocktail", "At Last", "(I've Got a Gal In) Kalamazoo", "American Patrol", "Tuxedo Junction", "Elmer's Tune", "Little Brown Jug", and "Anvil Chorus".[5] Including "Chattanooga Choo Choo", five songs played by Miller and His Orchestra were number one hits for most of 1942 and can be found on the List of Billboard number-one singles of 1942.[6] In four years, Miller scored 16 number one records and 69 top 10 hits, more than Elvis Presley (40)[7] and the Beatles in their careers.[8][9][10] His musical legacy includes multiple recordings in the Grammy Hall of Fame. His work has been performed by swing bands, jazz bands, and big bands worldwide for over 75 years.[11][12][13]

Miller is considered to be the father of the modern US military bands. In 1942, he volunteered to join the US military to entertain troops during World War II and ended up in the US Army Air Forces.[1] Their workload was just as heavy as the civilian band's had been. With a full string section added to a big band, the Major Glenn Miller Army Air Forces Orchestra[14] was the forerunner of many US military big bands.[15][1]

Miller went missing in action (MIA) on December 15, 1944, on a flight over the English Channel.[1] In keeping with standard operating procedure for the US military services, Miller was officially declared dead a year and a day later.[16][1][17] An Army investigation led to an official finding of death (FOD) for Miller, Norman Baessell, and John Morgan, all of whom died on the same flight.[18] All three officers are listed on the Tablets of the Missing at Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial in Cambridge, England.[1][19] Since his body was not recoverable, Miller was allowed to have a memorial headstone placed at the US Army-operated Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.[20][1][21][22][23][24] In February 1945, he was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal.[1]

This is Our War! World War II American Propaganda Song and Posters

Lyrics: (May be incorrect at times)
This is your war,
This is my war,
This is our war and we've got to win!

This is your job,
This is my job,
This is our job and we've got to win!

If you can't go over there, buy more bonds, do your share,
Buy the bonds and buy the guns and keep fighting 'till we've won!

This is your war,
This is my war,
This is our do or die war!
But with all the world and America,
Is on her way we're going to win!

This is your war,
This is my war,
This is our war and we've got to win!

This is your job,
This is my job,
This is our job and we've got to win!

If you can't go over there, buy more bonds, do your share,
Buy the bonds and buy the guns and keep fighting 'till we've won!

This is your war,
This is my war,
This is our do or die war!
But with all the world and America,
Is on her way we're going to win this war!

LAWSON PATERSON "RED" RAMAGE

DETAILS
  • RANK: COMMANDER (HIGHEST RANK: VICE ADMIRAL)
  • CONFLICT/ERA: WORLD WAR II
  • UNIT/COMMAND:
    U.S.S. PARCHE
  • MILITARY SERVICE BRANCH: U.S. NAVY
  • MEDAL OF HONOR ACTION DATE: JULY 31, 1944
  • MEDAL OF HONOR ACTION PLACE: OFF TAIWAN

CITATION

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as commanding officer of the U.S.S. Parche in a predawn attack on a Japanese convoy, 31 July 1944. Boldly penetrating the screen of a heavily escorted convoy, Comdr. Ramage launched a perilous surface attack by delivering a crippling stern shot into a freighter and quickly following up with a series of bow and stern torpedoes to sink the leading tanker and damage the second one. Exposed by the light of bursting flares and bravely defiant of terrific shellfire passing close overhead, he struck again, sinking a transport by two forward reloads. In the mounting fury of fire from the damaged and sinking tanker, he calmly ordered his men below, remaining on the bridge to fight it out with an enemy now disorganized and confused. Swift to act as a fast transport closed in to ram, Comdr. Ramage daringly swung the stern of the speeding Parche as she crossed the bow of the onrushing ship, clearing by less than 50 feet but placing his submarine in a deadly crossfire from escorts on all sides and with the transport dead ahead. Undaunted, he sent three smashing "down the throat" bow shots to stop the target, then scored a killing hit as a climax to 46 minutes of violent action with the Parche and her valiant fighting company retiring victorious and unscathed.

DETAILS
  • RANK: LIEUTENANT (HIGHEST RANK: LIEUTENANT COMMANDER)
  • CONFLICT/ERA: WORLD WAR II
  • UNIT/COMMAND:
    FIGHTING SQUADRON 3,
    U.S.S. LEXINGTON

  • MEDAL OF HONOR ACTION DATE: FEBRUARY 20, 1942
  • MEDAL OF HONOR ACTION PLACE: SOUTH PACIFIC

CITATION
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in aerial combat, at grave risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty, as section leader and pilot of Fighting Squadron 3 on 20 February 1942. Having lost the assistance of his teammates, Lt. O'Hare interposed his plane between his ship and an advancing enemy formation of nine attacking twin-engined heavy bombers. Without hesitation, alone and unaided, he repeatedly attacked this enemy formation, at close range in the face of intense combined machine-gun and cannon fire. Despite his concentrated opposition, Lt. O'Hare, by his gallant and courageous action, his extremely skillful marksmanship in making the most of every shot of his limited amount of ammunition, shot down five enemy bombers and severely damaged a sixth before they reached the bomb release point. As a result of his gallant action one of the most daring, if not the most daring, single action in the history of combat aviation he undoubtedly saved his carrier from serious damage.

On 9 April 1980, a bronze plaque was dedicated at the Mount Samat shrine by men who survived Bataan and Corregidor.[55] It reads:

To the Angels
In honor of the valiant American military women who gave so much of themselves in the early days of World War II. They provided care and comfort to the gallant defenders of Bataan and Corregidor. They lived on a starvation diet, shared the bombing, strafing, sniping, sickness and disease while working endless hours of heartbreaking duty. These nurses always had a smile, a tender touch and a kind word for their patients. They truly earned the name

US Air Force Song - lyrics (with pictures) Music & Lyrics (1947)

https://jrotc.fandom.com/wiki/The_U.S._Air_Force_(song)

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun! (Give 'er the gun now!)*
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one helluva roar!**
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!***
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Additional verses:
Minds of men fashioned a crate of thunder,
Sent it high into the blue;
Hands of men blasted the world asunder;
How they lived God only knew! (God only knew then!)
Souls of men dreaming of skies to conquer
Gave us wings, ever to soar!
With scouts before and bombers galore. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

Bridge: "A Toast to the Host"
Here's a toast to the host
Of those who love the vastness of the sky,
To a friend we send a message of his brother men who fly.
We drink to those who gave their all of old,
Then down we roar to score the rainbow's pot of gold.
A toast to the host of men we boast, the U.S. Air Force!

Zoom!

Off we go into the wild sky yonder,
Keep the wings level and true;
If you'd live to be a grey-haired wonder
Keep the nose out of the blue! (Out of the blue, boy!)
Flying men, guarding the nation's border,
We'll be there, followed by more!
In echelon we carry on. Hey!
Nothing will stop the U.S. Air Force!

The Cold War 1947-1991

Part 1: The Berlin Blockade through the Korean War   1947-1953

"The unevenness of development of the capitalist countries’ could lead to ‘violent disturbance’ and the consequent splitting of the ‘capitalist world into two camps and the war between them.’ War was inevitable as long as capitalism existed. The Soviet people must prepare themselves for a replay of the 1930s by developing basic industry instead of consumer goods and, in all, making enormous sacrifices demanded in ‘three five- year plans, I should think if not more.’ There would be no peace, internally or externally."  -Joseph Stalin

"From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic an "iron curtain" has descended across the continent. Behind that line lie all the capitals of the ancient states of Central and Eastern Europe. Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade, Bucharest and Sofia; all these famous cities and the populations around them lie in what I must call the Soviet sphere, and all are subject, in one form or another, not only to Soviet influence but to a very high and in some cases increasing measure of control from Moscow."  -Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of England

“A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic.”  -Joseph Stalin

“I believe that it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures. I believe that we must assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own way. I believe that our help should be primarily through economic and financial aid which is essential to economic stability and orderly political processes. ” -President Harry Truman

“Those who vote decide nothing. Those who count the vote decide everything.” -Joseph Stalin

On July 26, 1948, President Harry Truman signed Executive Order 9981, creating the President's Committee on Equality of Treatment and Opportunity in the Armed Services. The order mandated the desegregation of the U.S. military.

“Education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.”  -Joseph Stalin

The Korean War   1950-1953

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_War

"The most important thing in our war preparations is to teach all our people to hate U.S. imperialism. Otherwise, we will not be able to defeat the U.S. imperialists who boast of their technological superiority."  -Kim Il-sung

"The amphibious landing is the most powerful tool we have". He also said, "I can almost hear the ticking of the second hand of destiny. We must act now or we will die. . . . We shall land at Inchon, and I shall crush them".   -General Douglas MacArthur

"In order to support the Korean people's war of liberation and to resist the attacks of U.S. imperialism and its running dogs, thereby safeguarding the interests of the people of Korea, China and all the other countries in the East, I herewith order the Chinese People's Volunteers to march speedily to Korea and join the Korean comrades in fighting the aggressors and winning a glorious victory." -Mao Tse Tung

"Lenin lived, Lenin lives, Lenin will live."  -Kim Il-sung

"In my generation, this was not the first occasion when the strong had attacked the weak. [...] Communism was acting in Korea just as Hitler, Mussolini, and the Japanese had acted ten, fifteen, and twenty years earlier. I felt certain that if South Korea was allowed to fall, communist leaders would be emboldened to override nations closer to our own shores."  -President Harry Truman

"While in Korea, the Chinese People's Volunteers must show fraternal feelings and respect for the people, the People's Army, the Democratic Government, the Workers' Party and the other democratic parties of Korea as well as for Comrade Kim Il Sung, the leader of the Korean people, and strictly observe military and political discipline. This is a most important political basis for ensuring the fulfilment of your military task."  -Mao Tse Tung

"I can almost hear the ticking of the second hand of destiny. We must act now or we will die. . . . We shall land at Inchon, and I shall crush them."  -General Douglas MacArthur

"On the other side of every mountain [was] another mountain."   -Lieutenant Colonel George Russell

"We are for peace. But so long as U.S. imperialism refuses to give up its arrogant and unreasonable demands and its scheme to extend aggression, the only course for the Chinese people is to remain determined to go on fighting side by side with the Korean people. Not that we are warlike. We are willing to stop the war at once and leave the remaining questions for later settlement. However, U.S. imperialism is not willing to do so. All right then let the fighting go on. However many years U.S. imperialism wants to fight, we are ready to fight right up to the moment when it is willing to stop, right up to the moment of complete victory for the Chinese and Korean peoples."  -Mao Tse Tung

"I will defend Korea as I would my own country—just as I would California."  -General Douglas MacArthur

"We've been looking for the enemy for several days now, we've finally found them. We're surrounded. That simplifies our problem of getting to these people and killing them."   -Colonel Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, USMC

I'm placing this next story here, not only so I don't take away space for those we Medal of Honor awardees we chose to show, but because the story below not only contains a brief rundown of the History of the Korean War, but why we really don't know about it.   This is why the song above was written as well.

Goodbye Maria (I'm Off To Korea) Korean War Music Video (1953)

https://koreanwarperiod4.weebly.com/good-bye-maria-im-off-to-korea-by-jimmy-dale.html

For now it's Good-bye Maria, I'm off to Korea
Far across the sea
It's the same old story, it's up to Old Glory
To win another fight for liberty
So keep the home fires burning
And it won't be long until I'll be returning
Good-bye Maria, though I'm off to Korea
In my heart you'll always be

It wasn't long ago that we met in Italy
I was a G.I. Joe and you were Bella Marie
Soon we were married, then we sailed away
Across the ocean blue to my home in I-O-Way
There we've been living, happy as can be
Raising fields of corn and a small family
But now Maria, you must be brave and smile
We're in another fight so I must leave you for awhile

For now it's Good-bye Maria, I'm off to Korea
Far across the sea
It's the same old story, it's up to Old Glory
To win another fight for liberty
So keep the home fires burning
And it won't be long until I'll be returning
Good-bye Maria, though I'm off to Korea
In my heart you'll always be

Medal of Honor Recipient Tony K. Burris

DETAILS
  • RANK: SERGEANT FIRST CLASS
  • CONFLICT/ERA: KOREAN WAR
  • UNIT/COMMAND:
    COMPANY L, 38TH INFANTRY REGIMENT,
    2D INFANTRY DIVISION
  • MILITARY SERVICE BRANCH: U.S. ARMY
  • MEDAL OF HONOR ACTION DATE: OCTOBER 8, 1951
  • MEDAL OF HONOR ACTION PLACE: MUNDUNG-NI, KOREA

CITATION
Sfc. Burris, a member of Company L, distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry and outstanding courage above and beyond the call of duty. On 8 October, when his company encountered intense fire from an entrenched hostile force, Sfc. Burris charged forward alone, throwing grenades into the position and destroying approximately 15 of the enemy. On the following day, spearheading a renewed assault on enemy positions on the next ridge, he was wounded by machine-gun fire but continued the assault, reaching the crest of the ridge ahead of his unit and sustaining a second wound. Calling for a 57-mm recoilless-rifle team, he deliberately exposed himself to draw hostile fire and reveal the enemy position. The enemy machine-gun emplacement was destroyed. The company then moved forward and prepared to assault other positions on the ridgeline. Sfc. Burris, refusing evacuation and submitting only to emergency treatment, joined the unit in its renewed attack but fire from hostile emplacement halted the advance. Sfc. Burris rose to his feet, charged forward and destroyed the first emplacement with its heavy machine gun and crew of six men. Moving out to the next emplacement, and throwing his last grenade, which destroyed this position, he fell mortally wounded by enemy fire. Inspired by his consummate gallantry, his comrades renewed a spirited assault which overran enemy positions and secured Hill 605, a strategic position in the battle for "Heartbreak Ridge." Sfc. Burris' indomitable fighting spirit, outstanding heroism, and gallant self-sacrifice reflect the highest glory upon himself, the infantry, and the U.S. Army.
